First-Day School & Childcare
Brooklyn Meeting cherishes the presence of children and families and their unique contributions to the vibrancy of our community. Children’s spiritual questions and seeking are vital to the life of the meeting.
For Children of School Age:
First Day School provides an introduction to Quaker testimonies through storytelling, art projects, and co-operative games to children ages 4-13.
First Day School meets Sundays from September through June, 11-11:50 am. Class usually gathers in a classroom on the lower level of the meetinghouse.
Click here for our upcoming schedule and activities.
First Day School teachers also work with kids in preparing for Community Dinner on the last Sunday of each month
Children are always welcome to join their families in the meeting room on Sundays for worship instead of in class.
For Toddlers & Infants:
Children from 3 months to 3 years old may join Childcare which is also on the lower level (yellow door) which is run separately from First Day School. For more information, please reach out to

When a parent or other caregiver arrives at our meetinghouse, they bring the child to the classroom on the lower level and sign the child in. Families are reunited in the Meeting room around Noon.
Young people over the age 13:
Teens are wholeheartedly invited to join one of the Children’s Meetings or participate in Meeting for Worship upstairs.

The First Day School Education Committee
The FDS committee is run by members and attenders of our Brooklyn Meeting who are often parents and/or educators. FDS Committee members decide the curriculum and are present during class. There are always 2 adults in FDS classes.
The FDS committee seek to have a committee comprised of 10 Friends. The committee meets briefly via Zoom, every first Tuesday of the month, to plan classroom activities.
While one or two of the committee members are very active with the children in First Day School, other adults and teenagers of the Brooklyn Meeting community always encouraged to join in FDS activities as well.
